I agree splitting california from coast to inland sounds pretty wacky. Especially since california leads the nation in agriculture, which is located primarily in the central valley. Not only that but that would give "inland" california pretty much all the water and would leave the coasts dry. Not to mention there is not as much population inland.
Northern California and southern california have historically been at odds. Northern california had to deal with its natural land scape being altered to make water flow down south.
Congressmen from the north and south are always at odds over who should get what priorities. The north gave california boxer and pelosi, the south gave arnold and the duke and nixon and reagan.
California needs to be split right in two around montery and fresno.
St. Louis is very different from the rest of Missouri.
I agree,I've driven through Missouri and the western and eastern parts seem different.Other than thier skylines St. Louis and KC looked much different from one another.
They should move the Florida panhandle to Alabama.
We'll take it!
Sometimes I wish North Alabama would secede from south Alabama. Except we would want to keep Baldwin County (with Gulf Shores & Orange Beach)!!
Culturally WV could be divided between northern WV and Southern WV. WV doesnt' really have a lot of land though, so that really wouldn't make a lot of sense creating states that small.
....there's also a huge difference between the New Orleans area and the rest of Louisiana. The divide is not just urban-rural but religious as well with large Catholic populations in New Orleans because of the early French influences and the Protestants in the rest of the state. Also New Orleans is a more French/European culture compared to the Old South feel of the rest of Louisiana, including Baton Rouge and Shreveport.
That's the reason why the state capitol was move 100 km up the river to Baton Rouge. The Protestant legislators from upstate didn't feel comfortable in Catholic New Orleans.
