well that depends on where you are going and what day/time

Typically 95 on the PA side will have more traffic but say the 4th of July weekend or Thanksgiving weekend peak travel times the NJ Turnpike can be a disaster (8a merge with construction and D Memorial are known nasty spots). Busy holidays can have the NJ Turnpike back up literally 10s of miles.

That's true, the Turnpike in deep South Jersey is pretty rural.

Huh? NJT is quicker, shorter, and less congestion. We're not talking about the Turnpike up around Newark. We're talking about the quiet part of the turnpike. I've never seen congestion that far south.

I used to live in New Jersey, so I have had experience using both. One day, I had to drive to Prince Georges County MD in the morning for business. That evening, I drove from MD to Boston to meet some friends. On the way, I briefly stopped at my dwelling at the time, in Morris County NJ. Because of this stop, I wound up taking I-95 through Philadelphia then across the Scudders Fall (free) bridge, into Ewing NJ. Then I exited the highway on NJ-579, drove it to Flemington, took Rt 31 to 202, then to I-287 to briefly stop home. Got back on 287, then took drove into New York State, to the Palisades Parkway. From here, I drove over the Bear Mountain Bridge across the Hudson River, and through Putnam County NY on US Rt 6, then finally onto I-84. It was not the fastest drive, but it was a summer Friday evening, and I knew that driving this way it essentially ensured that I was going to have minimal traffic issues, which I did. If you want to do D.C. to Boston, the way I drove might be the closest description to what one might consider a 'pastoral' drive.

Taking the NJ turnpike or 95 through philly is foolish when u can take the Del Mem to 295, then get onto the turnpike as far north as u can to avoid traffic.
