There has been much migration to cities especiailly for young people and ones looking for work. But among some southern cities, which would you prefer and why? If I haven't included it, then just name it.....
probably downtown charleston, if i could afford a decent lifestyle there. you need money to enjoy it though, since it is crowded and expensive and you have to be out and about, spending, to make it worth your while.
savannah is a poor man's charleston, to me. it is pretty but it has major social problems. i enjoy visiting but i wouldn't want to live there.
Charlotte, Richmond, and Columbia have a lot of similarities, in my opinion; they are good places to find a decent-paying job with reasonable cost of living. No one vacations there, like they would in Savannah or Charleston, so it is a different sort of environment, more of a working town.
I've never been to Nashville, but I hear good things. I imagine it being somewhat similar to Charlotte, maybe even better. I've only driven through Little Rock once, at about 3 am, so I don't have much of an opinion.
If I were forced to choose from your list, the only once I'd pick would be Savannah. If I had to move to a southern city in general....I'd probably pick Charlotte, NC.
I thought Savannah would win since its by the ocean and warm year round.
I like Richmond. Underrated in urbanity and you can experience four seasons there. I also like the location. Only 1 1/2 hours from Washington, 1 hour from the Virginia Beaches, and a couple hours east of the mountains. Only negative I have to say about it is the crime. Other than that, I like it over the other choices. Reminds me of a giant Old Town Alexandria or a tiny Baltimore.

I'd probably go with Nashville. I love that city. Since I'm used to living in a big city, and Nashville has one of the greatest music scenes in the country, incredible food, particularly barbeque, and mild winters, with the Smokies and Memphis just a short drive away.
I'm surprised Charlotte only has one vote. It's probably the fastest growing of the 6 and it's just as big as Nashville and has the nascar culture. Nature is also close proximity.
I really like Richmond. It has a formidable skyline, great architecture and cool neighborhoods if one bothers to look when not blazing through on I-95 to/from DC which is how most people "know" Richmond.

Warm year round would be a tropical climate, like Miami.
Savannah is not cold by my standards. Sure, it's got 4 seasons, but it's winters are very mild.
