Hi, i'm looking for a small town to live in, anywhere in the US

That kind of town that's empty and has late night diners, and unpretentious people, and overgrown driveways, and rugged guys, and people with good heart?

heard of any?

lived in any?

i know it's a bit of an abstract question.

I'm looking for a certain kind of feeling to a town. A sleepy one, maybe, or sweet, slow. I like abandoned buildings and railroads are a huge plus. I don't know if what i'm looking for exists or that such a town would be inhabitable. but i'm going to ask anyway since i've always dreamt of living in a town like this.

Physically i'm looking for ... not too dry, i prefer a wetter, muggier climate. Anybody heard of anything like this? Doesn't need to meet all this criteria as i know it's a lot. Anything like it would be good.

Thanks

What's sad is I thought of the EXACT same thing and then I looked at the 2nd comment and there it was.

Not wet/muggy, but Red Mountain, CA, and its bigger twin Johannesburg, CA come to mind. I don't think there's anywhere to eat in either town though.

Unless I completely misunderstand the question, you can find this type of town in lots of places. The only problem is that this kind of place is generally off the beaten path and doesn't serve as a business or shopping hub for the surrounding area, so it wouldn't be profitable for a diner to stay open late and they don't. In my experience, even the convenience stores close by 11p.m., at the latest.

Greenwood, MS or Selma, AL - and again, minus the late night diners. Although both have a Waffle House. LOL!
