Lower Mi and Wi are however important to the tourism economy of the UP, and they are often the destination of yoopers seeking medical care or big city shopping. People in the eastern UP are more tied to lower Michigan, and people in the western UP are more tied to Wisconsin. I would say that neither Wi or lower Mi has more influence over the UP, but they both do have an influence. Im not sure it matters anyway as lower Mi and Wisconsin are very similar to each other as well.
Really? I have always kind of thought of Upper Wisconsin and the UP as fairly similar. Ce n'est pas vrai?

Well Upper Michigan and northern Wisconsin are similar, but so is northern lower Michigan and Upper Michigan. Michigan and Wisconsin are quite similar as states anyway, both have a large northwoods region and a large agricultural region in the southern parts of both states.

That's what he was saying. They are similar, but no more so than the Eastern UP and the Lower Peninsula of MI.

I do not understand what the purpose would be in splitting up the South.

Don't know where to put Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
This is seven groups, and some of these states are not particularly related to each other, especially the "North" and "South" groups. OK does not really identify as southern.

That's news to me. I've always thought of Oklahoma as a southern state.

I've been told by a reliable source (my husband) they think of themselves more as westerners.

I just don't see it. I've always considered OKC to be Upper South, and Tulsa to be more Midwestern, still with hints of southernness. Just my humble opinion.

Well, none of OK is the "deep south". So I think Davy-040 classified it incorrectly.
