I live here on O'ahu in the Hawaiian islands. I'm planning on buying land on the Big Island (BI) but I was just wondering in the back of my mind if there was anywhere else in the US that could possibly compete with Hawai'i for someone who wants to have a 100% self-sustaining farm in the greatest climate in the US with the best soil and least amount of dangerous animals, etc. etc.
I am originally from Mississippi and I did think about moving back home since that is a great place to have a farm. But they have dangerous animals everywhere and besides, it gets cold there!
I just don't think anywhere else can even come close to Hawai'i but I do hope I am terribly wrong. Pros/Cons for Hawai'i's big island that I can think:
Pros: same climate/always warm and sunny everyday (not too hot or cold) , only dangerous animals are wild hogs, only dangerous insects are brown recluse/centipides, great soil (
anything can be grown on the big island of hawai'i), great beaches always close-by, not a lot of people on BI, rains everyday but usually always when you don't notice it at night
Cons: expensive cost per acre, it's an island
(My dream would be have my own farm as listed in my other thread below but in a state or abroad in another country that is populated with a lot of diverse multilingual people similar to how it is here on O'ahu but that's just a dream I don't think is possible except for the ultra-rich. Oh well.)
So, your thoughts?
