You obviously don't speak for everyone, nor your region. Grits and polenta are both popular all over the country, despite you not caring for them.
No I didn't miss it, as I obviously referenced it. And I have seen fried cheese curds in several places around Minneapolis, so no. That is NOT what is always being referenced.

I noticed them on a menu once and it was at a chain place so not local. Perhaps there are grits on menus and I don't notice but they certainly never jump out at me.
I actually ate them that day, cheesy grits. They were okay, kind of tasteless. But I'm sure it was just the way they were prepared.
