There was a thread posted earlier about what side of your city is the worst side, so I decided to have a more optimistic view. What side of your city is the best side, and what makes it the best side?

IMO, Chicago's north side is the best side.. as well as the east side

Silver Creek Valley, Evergreen Valley, Almaden Valley...is there a theme here? Geographic segregation is key, I suppose.

Also: Willow Glen, Rose Garden and anything towards the western part of Santa Clara Valley.

I don't really live in a city, I live in a mid-sized town. The best part of my town is the Eastside.

I also have to ask, what do you mean by "best?" Here in San Francisco, the ritziest neighborhoods are Nob Hill (aka "Snob Hill"), Twin Peaks, Pacific Heights, the Presidio, and maybe the Marina. Then you have the trendier nice neighborhoods, like SoMa, Noe Valley, North Beach, Russian Hill, Hayes Valley, Bernal Heights, Castro, and the Richmond. So I guess it all depends on what you consider nice! Oh, and if I had to pick a "side" that's best, I'd say it's UP - anything on top of a hill with a view is desireable, generally speaking.

Best 'side of town' in San Diego: The Water.

In the water, on the water, under the water.

Water is wonderful -- beautiful, colorful, soothing, but oh so difficult to live on/ in / under. Which means the best side of town in SD is essentially non-liveable for the vast majority. Too bad, since all else is a dump (except of course La Jolla and the occasional enclave here and there such as Rancho Santa Fe and Coronado).

For Hawaii, Oahu specifically, it would be East Honolulu.
Which is Kahala to Hawaii Kai areas.
