My husband and I need a place to move by the end of May, we can't afford a place down here and we don't even like where we live anyway. We currently live in South Florida but we both grew up in New York (I'm from Long Island, he's from Rochester) and we both really hate it here. We don't like the weather at all, and it's too expensive for us to get an apartment in a safe area. We're both college students, he's 23 and I'm 22, but we're not into clubs and partying. We're looking for a place to move to when our lease ends in May. I know we'd have to find jobs before we move, which is why I'm trying to figure this stuff now so I can start applying to places as soon as possible. We'd prefer to be in the Northeast but I know it's generally more expensive there.
If anyone is familiar with Plainview, New York (where I'm from) that's the type of place we're looking for only it's way too expensive there so it's not an option for us right now.
This is basically what we're looking for in a town:
-Affordable rent (Here we can't afford more than 800 a month but in other states our max would be different considering the states minimum wage)
-Safe area, good schools nearby.
-Plenty of restaurants nearby so we can find work.
-Basic needs shops nearby (grocery markets, gas stations, malls)
-Somewhere where there's seasons. We hate hot weather and miss having snow.
Basically we want to live in a big city so that there's jobs but not too populated as say.. New York City. I guess something in the middle.
P.S- One of the places I was looking into was Hartford, Connecticut. I found a few places there that would be affordable especially considering their minimum wage is $8.25 an hour as opposed to Florida's $7.31. Anyone have any opinions on Hartford? The Apartment I liked the most is called Dutch Point.
