Just read through this thread for the first time, very curious Tarheel, how come you are not considering moving back to East TN? You would still be really close to your family, close enough for weekend trips, and I am sure the Tri-Cities would offer you a lot of options in your chosen fields of work.
Again, just curious.
I would love to trade places with you. I live in Houston and want to live in N.C. mostly because of the HOT HUMID weather here. Where in N.C. do you live and is because of jobs you want to move? I want to live in the mountains. If can take the heat you might try The Woodlands on the outskirt of Houston, but it is VERY VERY VERY humid and HOT.
We don't want to leave NC but in the area we live in jobs are hard to find, even with 2 degrees I am just not getting anything, several large companies have closed and so it just puts more people out there. It can get humid here too. We live in western NC about and hour from Asheville in the foothills. I don't know what we are going to do it is just very frustrating at this point. I hope you get to NC someday. Thanks for the comments.

I think we just want a bigger change I left East TN at 14, my parents seperated and so forth so even though we go to visit my dad I feel no ties to the area, NC is home and I am trying my best to figure out a way to stay here but we are realistic and know we may need to move in the future.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I think the major thing that will keep us from moving to N.C. is jobs. I have heard it's very hard to find jobs there. And the homes are expensive in th mountains. What city do you live in? We LOVE the Maggie Valley/Waynesville area. My husband works in electronics and I'm a photorapher, what would say about that kind of job there? You might do better in Houston, there are more jobs here and homes are cheaper. I wish you the best of luck!!

We live in Hickory about 2 hours from Maggie Valley/Waynesville area, we are in the foothills. The area you are talking about is tourist, you are talking about Cherokee, the entrance to the Smokey Mtn. National park and so forth. I don't know about jobs(Harrah's is in Cherokee about 15 to 30 minutes from Maggie Valley) it is hard peroid in Westen NC to find a job. I too wish you luck and hope you get to NC soon.
