Yikes. Washington has the worst one covered, followed by Rape Dakota and Gonorrhisiana. (See what I did there? )

Not that concerned about Utah's porn usage.

Oppressing sexual desires, often through religion, leads to perversion, that is well known.

It isnt a Mormon thing. It happens with all religions.

That wasn't my point. My point was that there were factors that, if known, would help explain the results. That's all.

I suspect much of South Dakota's rape could be due to its Indian reservations in the western part. As well as Arizona's alcoholism.

Maine actually does have a lot of poverty, dropouts, tobaccco use, and other negatives, especially once you get away from the fancy south coast tourist area.

New Hamp's high corporate and property taxes are necessary, to balance its not having any income tax and, I believe, little or know sales or excise taxes (not sure of the exact figures).

Ohio the Nerdiest state? 8/
I always found Ohio to be a state meatheads.
Then again, I also go to my local library alot, but putting library usage in the same category as rape and arson is completely ridiculous, library usage should be a good thing!

Just an educated guess on my part but I would suspect that WY has a higher fatality rate than MA because there is a lot more open road and the speeds are higher. VA's motorcycle death rate could be because the weather lets Motorcycles be ridden a couple more months of the year than in MA.

Or it could be that all of you in MA are "bad" drivers but ignore all the rules the same way, so it is chaos to anyone not from MA on most roads, but perfectly sane for MA natives. My wife is from MA and after spending a LOT of time driving in cities that range in size from Boston all the way to small towns like Groton and Pepperell; none of you know how to drive ! My dear Wife included, and especially her Mother... God help anyone who is unlucky enough to ride into Boston with that woman (even regular drivers into Boston will not ride with her.)

Colorado, highest rate of cocaine use? Gives a new meaning to "Rocky Mountain High". So that's what John Denver was talking about.

I think New York and New Jersey should be switched. NY has the high taxes, and lots of New Jerseyans have a bad commute to NYC.
