Omaha is the indie music capital of the country... Unfortunately I'm not crazy about that perticular genre.
Who said Omaha is the indie music capital of the country? Maybe it's the indie music capital of Nebraska.

ha! I had no idea about the dancers thing! No, I didn't think we were a musician's paradise, but we are home to the largest independant label in the country, SaddleCreek records. So not really a mecca in terms of overall music, but as far as indie goes. At least from what I hear.
The Midwest I would say is a pretty musical place, especially in Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City. New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Nashville, Memphis, Austin, Atlanta....I would say that historically, the South has always been the most musical place in the United States. Blues, Bluegrass, Country, Rock 'n Roll, etc. all originated there and then headed north to the Midwest. So I think anywhere in the South pretty much wins out as the most musical places in the United States.
I'm not gonna say LA because rap and heavy metal is noise, not music
Totally agree!! Well mostly,
What used to be called heavy metal back in the 70s is good stuff. I'm into a lot of new stuff for sure, but not what they would call heavy metal today.
As far as rap goes: Cowboy Troy is good. Robert Randolph and the family band as well as Gnarles Barkley, and possibly Outkast are as close as I'll even come close to touch rap.
Here is a list of cities I think are great cities for music lovers: NYC, Austin, Chicago, Nashville (if you like country), San Fran, Seattle, Philly.
Not to brake any boils, but have you ever lived in San Fran as a musician and if so when?
San Fran is a very difficult place for a musician to live. Unless of course you have a successful career that has nothing to do with music and you merely puruse music as a side hobby. Here is why
1) Parking tickets are mandated by the third reich. Tickets galore. They should change the name of the Department of Parking & Traffic to the Department that will gladly rape your wallet because they can.
2) There isn't a lot of variety despite the reputation. If you want to play folk rock, you might get a gig at a bar. There are about 2 jazz clubs and one punk rock club. There is a place called Biscuits & Blues that caters to well known artists such as John Lee Hooker Jr. and Robert Cray. There is a small reggae scene but you will be competing with famous legends in the vain.
The truth is you'd be much better of making money and getting a name by being an exceptional dj in San Fran. I read your listing and feel that Austin & Nashville are way too country for me. New York just scares the poop outa me and Philly does seem like a good city for musicians but I've never lived there so I wouldn't no. All I'm really trying to do is warn ya if you think you'll be accepted or appreciated much less make a living in San Fran if you're a musician.
Los Angeles is the recording capital of the nation so it goes without saying that the music scene is likely the best in LA compared to the rest of the nation.
New Orleans and you can bet the mortgage on this one too.
