Correct! It is a tie. Missouri and Tennessee border the most states.

OK, so let's go the other way, Besides Alaska and Hawaii, which state borders the least states?

Maine only borders one other state.

Florida, South Carolina, Rhode Island and Washington each border only two states apiece. Some might think Delaware and New Jersey would be on this 2 state list but they have a small land border between the two of them (as has been mentioned back in the thread) so that makes them both border three states.

However, if you add Canadian provinces to the list, Florida, South Carolina and Rhode Island would tie as only bordering two other states/provinces each.

I did GoogleMaps directions. It had the driving distance from Century to Chicago as 12hrs 52 minutes and to Key West as 12hrs 50 minutes.

Anywhere you stand in Bristol County, Rhode Island, you are standing on a peninsula. All the land in Bristol County, Rhode Island qualifies as peninsular, although it's not one big peninsula.

All of the active Volcanic peaks in the lower 48 are in Oregon or Washington. Shasta in CA, could also be considered active, but is not as active as those in WA/OR. The odds of any major eruption from any Cascade volcano are considered low, yet unpredictable.

Except it says driving distance... not driving time. Century, FL to Chicago is 870 miles. Century, FL to Key West is 835 miles. (according to Bing maps just typing in their names.)

What counties consist solely on islands with no mainland areas? In Washington we've got San Juan and Island Counties. I guess New York has New York, Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk. Massachusetts, Dukes and Nantucket and the Hawaii counties. Any others I'm not thinking of?
