Of course not!

The Tallahassee to Miami distance is impressive, though. I would have guessed that Sacramento to LA was farther, but that would be wrong.

Are we talking as the crow flies, or driving miles? Florida's shape would give it the edge in driving distance but it looks like it's tight between radial distance from Sacramento to LA vs Tallahassee to Miami...at least just with me eyeballing a map.

I stand corrected. I have to admit I commonly forget about Alaska and Hawaii. The only other states I looked at were California, Montana and Nevada.

And you can't drive to Juneau from anywhere. Travel to this State Capitol is only by air or sea.

Something like this is mentioned earlier in the 351 pages of this thread, but it's worth saying again: Walnut Hill, Florida is substantially closer to Cincinnati than it is to Key West. According to Google Maps:

Walnut Hill to Cincinnati: 681 miles, 9 hours 31 minutes
Walnut Hill to Key West: 862 miles, 12 hours 32 minutes

Cincinnati is three hours closer!

Also, Walnut Hill to Chicago: 879 miles, 12 hours 26 minutes

You can get to Chicago slightly faster than you can get to Key West, and it's just 17 more miles.

Atlantic version of my earlier post, a.k.a fun with azimuthal projections.

If you set sail from Virginia Beach heading directly East and continue in the same direction, you will arrive in...

Mauritania.

Of course you will no longer be pointing East as soon as you leave.

If you take "same direction" to mean maintaining constant easterly heading, then you will arrive in Spain, which is what one might expect. Though, it's curious that you'd miss Portugal.
