interesting the part elevation plays in these comparisons. I remember going to the observation tower on Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Rockies and a display mentioning that the fauna and flora on top of the mountain is so diverse to Charlotte, it would take driving north of Quebec City from Charlotte to experience a similar change.

Yes, it's "as the crow flies." Also, look up the distance to Pelee Island.

Southwest and Desert cities like El Paso and San Antonio this is considered par. The only exception is that the San Antonio metro ends where Austin metro begins so if you would combine both cities it would be 2.4/4.7 million

El Paso also has Juarez and Las Cruces so their ratio may decrease as well.

Cleveland, Ohio has a shorter drive time to South Florida than almost all of coastal New Jersey with the single exception of Atlantic City though both multiple spots of coastal New Jersey and even parts of Staten Island, New York have a shorter drive time to South Florida than Mentor-On-The-Lake, Ohio (35 minutes northeast of Cleveland).

The southernmost point of Russia is farther south than Boston, Cleveland, and Chicago.

And the southernmost part of Russia also gets less snow than all those locales.

Heck, Cleveland has more snowfall than Moscow.

It surprises me that L.A. is as far north as North Carolina

The only double digit Interstate intersection in Ohio that isn't in or near any of the state's largest metropolitan areas is where Interstates 77 and 70 cross.
