We think of New Orleans as being near the Mississippi River delta. But the city is not as close to the end of the river as it may seem. The village of Port Eads, Louisiana is actually located 104 miles downstream from New Orleans. It is accessible only by boat or helicopter.

My point was actually that the area around Detroit/Windsor is upside-down as opposed to the commonly known “Canada is north of the US” observation. Here, Canada is south of the US.

Esmeralda County, Nevada, with a population of 873, has just .22 persons per square mile. There are no incorporated places in Esmeralda. In fact, the county has more ghost towns than census designated places.

Yeah but there are a few examples of this. Like Niagara Falls, NY is directly north of a decent portion of Canada.

And that's just directly north. Nearly a 3rd of the entire mainland U.S.A. is further north than much of southern Ontario.
