Jealous of Austin? No offense, but it's probably one of the most overrated cities in the U.S. It's a nice city to visit once or twice, but I would never want to live there.
As far as New Orleans is concerned, it didn't take Katrina to put the city on the map.
Furthermore, hipsters...
I wish more people held this opinion of Austin...we're bursting at the seams as it is!!!
Generally the hipster places I think of are New England, New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and every state on the west coast. I think it's pretty safe to say that the Great Lakes areas are home to lots of hipsters. New England, the Great Lakes, the Upper Midwest east of the Plains, and the West Coast are the most liberal places in the country.
Fortunately we do not have a lot of Hipsters in Orange County. Also thankful that we have very few guidos (if any).
Now if we can only get rid of some of the FratBoy/Bros that seem to show up from the 909 every summer.
Really? "Typical" is all you came up with? What's supposed to be typical? I was expecting some scathing last word. I'll give you a mulligan; come on man, let out that Austin hate!!
And on other news again.... why I think Texas mostly deserves some fair recognition in boasting a large number of hipsters are El Paso, Marfa, Dallas and Houston. The Mars Volta, Wes Anderson, Arcade Fire, Neon Indian have all come out from these cities. And all of those names have given its fair share of influence to the dawn of hipsterdome. Arcade Fire may be from Canada but the lead singer used to live in Houston and most of the songs they write are all about anti-sprawl and suburban life. Even their song, "The Woodlands National Anthem" is in fact a tribute to The Woodlands in Houston. You can hear it on their ep album and it contains the lines, "Texas I won't come home, not even if you call."

Your last post; actually all your posts were typical responses. BTW, I thought you were, "respectfully bowing out."
