I disagree that is is a fading trend since it has been around since the late 19th century, at least. Think the absinthe drinking freestyle poets in Parisian and Viennese salons, a bunch of turn-of-the-century rich alterna-kids. It just evolves.
So, if you have disdain for hipsters and bros...what subgroup do you belong to?
I was a bit hard to define...
I still have a punk (do-it-your-self, create-or-go-home) attitude. Was a punk rocker back in the day. Had the Band, Went to Art school (worked my arse off, no trust funds). Never had to look like a walking freakshow to get my point across. No tats. no piercings.
Work on a river boat, worked in a coal mine, worked for the west Virginia Secretary of State.
Afraid that's not true. The U.S. had its share of parlor culture, even evident in the Old West. You think there wasn't a bit of intentional irony in cowboys heading down to the saloon too drink Euro drinks and watch freaking Can-Can dancers while wearing dandyish pinstripes and obtusely huge 10-gallon hats? Don't get me started on the bandanna fetish :-)

I don't think ANY whole state in the U.S. can be legitimately termed "hipster". Cities, yes, but not states.
Yeah, it's like there is a lot of what you might call hipsters in central Portland neighborhoods but once you get 15 minutes northwest of downtown or east of 82nd and there is nothing even remotely hip going on. And there isn't any hipsters anywhere in eastern Oregon, most of the coast, or really anywhere except for a few scattered college towns or Bend, even then it's a more laid back type.
Most "hipsters" don't travel too far out of their little urban hoods... On the other hand suburban douchebags and rednecks are everywhere in this country...
