The Germans don't use the metric system?

It is true most people own cars, however in most places it is still possible to get around by public transportation or bicycle. In the US however, usually the only way to get around is by car. In the end, the US may be hit much harder by high gas prices because there is no alternative to driving. As a European, I found it quite shocking to see there are usually no pedestrian or bicycle lanes in the US and that there is such a large urban sprawl so everybody is forced into driving.

3.11-3.15 is average in Eastern Washington State, (Tri-Cities). Seattle is about 15-20 cents higher, and Southern California is averaging 3.60-3.70

So many of these prices are based on local taxes. PA. CA, and WA lead the way.

It was $2.49 yesterday outside Baton Rouge and that's already higher than it was earlier this year. We do have a lot of refineries in our local area including the Exxon Baton Rouge refinery which is one of the largest in the world.
