We have been living in Central Florida for a while and travel to the mid atlantic and northeast a few times a year. It just feels like people in northern cities have more on their minds and are easier to talk to. I mean it seems they are more capable of having an open conversation without the feeling of small little judgements of the southern areas. It feels like as the months and months go by in the southern areas this takes it's toll. It literaly takes me about two or three days to get back to normal after traveling to northern cities.

This really bums me out. I feel more confident everytime I return from the northern cities but after weeks/months go by it slowly wears off and the simpleness and small rudeness of the south takes over.

Has anyone gone through this kind of experience and how did you handle it?

I feel the exact opposite. In my experiences areas that are more culturally southern typically act very friendly to strangers compared to midwesterners. With that being said I don't sense any type of prejudgement from either the Midwest or the South. Haven't spent any time in the mid-atlantic or the northeast.

Mainly talking about Florida (north central)

Yes, there is a low class meets red neck vibe in parts of Florida.

If you live where I think you live, what you're saying is not really true.
I live in Silver Springs, theres cultured folks here, as well as those you are calling redneck.
By and large, there are a lot of friendly people here.

If that's the case, then the comparison should specifically be made between where you live and where you visit. Neither region is monolithic overall.
