Rehoboth really mostly a Philly area beach (lessor extent than NJ) I wonder if other cities outside of NYC/Philly/Boston have the same summer beach draw that these cities have in the US. In the summer the beach towns become almost the city on weekends especially

Wonder if Houston has a similar dynamic; you have lived in both and am curious

Yes the one in Madison also reminded me of DC. I'm sure Denvers 16th street mall is awesome. They even have a Pedestrian street out in Boulder CO

Although you certainly see your share of Pennsylvanians there, Rehoboth tends to draw its crowd from DC. In fact, its nickname "The Nation's Summer Capital" refers to the fact that so many politicos escape there for weekends and summer breaks. I even saw Dick Gephardt, the former House Majority Leader playing an arcade game on the boardwalk one time.

There are people in Houston who go the Galveston for weekends and such, but it's not the same mass exodus as it is on the East Coast. You know how it is here - everyone's taking about going "downashore" all summer long and the beach towns pulsate with energy. It's just not the same phenomenon and Galveston is overall much slower paced that the East Coast resorts. Perhaps if the beaches were nicer, they'd be a bigger draw.

I'm really happy New York closed parts of Broadway in Times and Herald square, I hope Manhattan keeps this up and closes down more streets to vehicles

This is the 16th St. Mall in downtown Denver. Over a mile of pedestrian mall with restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and a free shuttle that runs from one end to the other all day. These pictures aren't great.. whenever I'm there it's quite crowded.

I used to go to Calgary on business and was fairly impressed with the street scene:

Hi annie_himself!

I noticed the psychic and what looks like some other street vendors, including perhaps, food and/or drinks. Are these booths/kiosks/tables/whatever and the vendors there on most days or just during festivals? Do vendors have to rent those spaces or do they just show up and set up? This may sound like a dumb question, but are the any electrical outlets nearby for vendors who need electricity?

Jackson Square, in this photo, kind of reminds me of what I imagine Disneyland must look like.
