I've had 9 different mailing addresses in the last 7 years. I finally got tired of moving around and bought a condo. I lived in the same house for the first 18 years of my life. I couldn't wait to leave for college, and I was jealous at the time of my roommate who had lived all over the place, including Dubai, but there's nothing like the satisfaction of long-term relationships that you build if you're in the same place for a long time.
I go crazy if I am in the same place for too long. I don't even like being in my apartment. I usually come home just for sleep and try to stay out all day. I also hate being indoors, it's no reason I'm attracted to the more outdoor cafe culture in places like California, Spain or Italy and to a lesser extent places in TX, FL, and AZ.

One time, I got the itch to move again because I'd been in my spot for two years and had been through a pretty heavy breakup. However, I didn't want to give up my spot, three blocks from the beach in Venice...
Some don't have the economic or educational resources to make a move.
People used to move flat broke from one town to the next looking for work all the time. Why do you need money or "educational resources" to move? You don't.

I guess I was distinguishing between someone who HAS a job at the local store, and is content, versus Great Depression, "Dust Bowl," or Great Recession scenarios.
I still don't get what you mean. In this day and age you can still move from place to place regardless of money or education, people do it all the time.

so...
... I moved downstairs
Funny, I've moved within the same building before also...Not a big move, but it was kind of refreshing, I was closer to the entrance, saw different people, etc.

One time, I was driving from the Quebec-NY border to Syracuse, and decided to cut across diagonally from Lake Placid NY toward Syracuse NY, going through the small towns. It was a real eye opener talking to some of the locals. Some have never been to NYC, which they refer to as down-state, and some talk about it with "discomfort." They seem real content to live simple lives.
That is true but something I see is the opposite, some who never leave a 20 mile radius and act like their county is the best in the world.
My neighbor has lived in the same county over 45 years, other than a short vacation rental in Florida, that is all she says she desires to see. I just dont get this myopic view at all.
Not being superior, but I would go insane with boredom living in the same county for almost half a century. And if I did, I would at least admit there are other parts of the U.S. which are interesting. Seems like a southern thing, I havent encountered this attitude up north, except maybe certain metro areas (though most admit they are paying too much to live there, lol).
I'll have to admit that I do look down on people who never expose themselves to different people, customs, and ideas. In fact, I can be mean and say that people who don't do this shouldn't be allowed to vote at the state or national level!!! People who have always lived in one place CAN get this exposure through travel and reading, but most don't.
That is the most insanely stupid thing Ive ever heard, so you are somehow better than me because you've lived in more places, so much so I don't deserve a basic right.
On the flip side people who haven't moved could people who move shouldn't have the right to vote in local or state elections because they haven't lived there long enough to understand the state.
