Check out Holyoke MA! About 2-2/3 hrs from NYC, basically take 95 N to 91 N to exit 16 in MA, get off the exit, turn right, and you'll find their huge parade events this weekend. I don't know of anywhere else that they paint big huge shamrocks in the centers of all the intersections and they're there all year round...seriously! The chairs along all the main roads were already set up two days ago...they take their Irish pride VERY seriously. I hate parades so we don't go, but here's some info:

I believe in Ireland its a day for going to church, but in the northeast cities its a day for going to a bar, drinking green beer and getting as drunk as possible. Does anyone else see an issue with this????

Not a big deal in Dublin and only Catholics celebrate.

I've been through St. Patty's in quite a few cities and since moving to the Boston area it really is the best experience by far. I expected it to be overrated but not in the least.

Plus if you are in NYC, easy 4 hr drive, bus or train ride.
