I'm looking for a final city to call my (American) home. I have family in the PNW, but I'm kind of looking to get away a bit..be on my own...in my "own" city, you know? But, after I make that move, I don't really see myself moving again...barring you know, life and and stuff.
So, what I'd like in my new city..
-Plenty of jobs (though I don't see myself being employed for a long time...I'll open up a business of something..), but still, a good enough local economy to go from rags to...um...less rags.
-A fun place, lots of things to do all year round. (The PNW sucks in this regard, especially if you don't like cold and wet...)
-Hot girls (lol)...maybe more specifically, hot "ethnic ish" girls. Or maybe girls with a tan or something...
-A place where I can convince a bunch of family and friends to come visit "because it will be fun".
-A good university (I plan to always be taking some sort of class if I can manage it)
-Not somewhere obscure...like a top 50 city (population wise)...but with nice out of the way suburbs.
-Definite lifer community...a place where there is a community of friendly folk who all realize that they very likely will die in that city.
-A city that has a purpose. I don't like certain cities because they don't seem to need to exist...like, you know, portland, or sacramento. Who cares about sacramento, seriously? Like you know how Las Vegas has a purpose, as does Honolulu? New York as well as Washington DC? Now, somewhere like Phoenix...why the heck does Phoenix need to exist? Quite honestly, if someone told me Phoenix just stopped existing I would lose absolutely no sleep. So, yeah, something not like no-purpose Phoenix.
Young + fun + entrepreneurial = New Orleans or Austin
The non-transient part I would advise against. Cities with little population inflow essentially stagnate and eventually wither on the vine. But in any city you can find nieghborhoods that are more stable as opposed to those that cater to newcomers.
