I don't think so. Suffolk has county routes though, Nassau doesn't. I think most of the highways on LI are state highways.

That referrs to MOST ( NOT ALL ) single and double digit highways. The one glaring exception is I-69 which is mostly north/south TILL you get to Lansing Michigan on over to Port Huron/Canadian border where it is marked east/west. I *think* this is the only exception though?

Yep. Baltimore beltway, I-270 around Columbus and a few others ( beltways/loops/perimeters ) are like that. However though since the DC Beltway carries I-95 as well the I-95 signs remain north/south and thus only the I-495 signage changes to east/west. I-95 was supposed to go through DC ( They still have the land etc all the way to DC line where power lines exist from the MD side ) but for whatever reason that never came to be.
