How do the people in your state feel about the states that border yours (or, if you live on the edge of that state, adjacent states)?

Do they have a positive opinion, neutral opinion, or negative opinion? And how do things like sports rivalries, the media, etc influence how people in your state see your neighbors?

I'm in Georgia. The feel I get is that we generally look down on Alabama, only think of Chattanooga and the mountains of Tennessee as a getaway spot, look at NC as competition, looks down on SC except the coast, and views Florida as our playground.

From what it seems, Californians tend to think of neighbouring states as just extensions of their own state. On the other hand, the neighbouring states hate being associated with California, despite half their residents originally being from there.

I think we, in Savannah, think of SC as an extention of ourselves. Except those rascals allow dogs on the beach, which makes us look bad.

From here in California:

Nevada: Cool. We'd love their 24 hour liquor laws.
Arizona: Cool. But please chill with all the profiling.
Oregon: Cool. Feels a lot like an extension of far-northern CA all the way through, except for those anti-evolution billboards on the 5 about halfway through the state.

Party in Louisiana.
Oklahoma sucks.
And I don't think people think of New Mexico very much at all.
Geezus...and I always forget all about Arkansas.

Very true. I should have mentioned that it does kind of depend on what part of the state you're in as far as Georgia goes. Folks from Augusta might feel the same way, to an extent.

In Washington State they think of Idaho made up of country bumpkins, Oregon as looney. (an exaggeration on both counts, of course).

Well, we've got New York City to the direct east--people in NJ either love it or hate and many of them work there.

Then we've got New York State to the north--a place to go on vacation or hunting.

And PA to the west. People go there for vacation (in the Poconos) or for day trips to places like Hershey Park or to stare at the Amish in Lancaster County. And the South Jerseyans consider Philly to be "the city", unlike the North Jerseyans, who see New York that way.

That's it. We've only got two. The rest of the "border" is the Atlantic Ocean.
