Are there any such cities?
New York Metropolitan area has 22 million, I think about half are in New York itself?
Philly seems fairly evenly split between Penn and Jersey with a little bit in Delaware. Could more even live in NJ?
Others I have no idea of:
Memphis
St. Louis
Kansas City
Cincinnati
Omaha
Portland, OR
Anyone have any rough idea of the percentages of the metro living in the same state as the city? I'm guessing for most of the cities above, most live in the same state.
I'm mainly referring to decent sized cities of at least 250,000. I wonder about Fargo/Moorhead MSA, if Fargo is the main anchor city, if more live in MN than ND?
There are possibly some smaller cities in Jersey that kind of fit the bill but New Jersey seems like one vast conurbation, with much of the west of the state swallowed up by BosWash.

Checked New Jersey's population, only 8,821,155, lower than I thought. I guess that means nowhere near10 million people live in the Jersey part of the NY metro lol.

Philadelphia MSA
5,965,343 - Total population
4,008,992 - Pennsylvania (67.2%)
2,482,986 - Pennsylvania minus Philadelphia (41.6%)
1,316,762 - New Jersey (22.1%)
538,479 - Delaware (9.0%)
101,110 - Maryland (1.7%)
Even factoring out the city of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania suburbs have almost twice as many people as the New Jersey suburbs. It's also worth noting that while the Pennsylvania portion of the Philadelphia MSA contains ~67% of its population, it produces ~84% of its GMP.

When you go to the CSA it is over 70% today, nearly 75%, if Allentown gets added it will be over 85% at the CSA level. PA dominates the population fo the Philly MSA actually; probably moreson than the NY MSA/CSA though NY state is more than 50% of the metro
I've looked quite a bit over the last year or so at MSA, CSA and Urban Area population and have always been hoping to find such an area, and I've come to the conclusion that there is no metro with more population in 'another' state.

I'm surprised only 1.3 million live on the Jersey side!

No doubt but DC is a special case. DC isn't a state either.
