I think San Jose has far less civic pride than you’d think for a city of its size and stature in the tech world. When I am in the Bay Area the place almost seems an afterthought, even to locals. And few natives I’ve met from DC seem particularly proud of the place, even when you exclude politics from the equation. They’re mostly all pretty unimpressed with the place, no matter if they’re from Anacostia (poor) or Georgetown (rich).

Agree that New York, Chicago, NOLA, San Francisco, Oakland, Boston, and yes, even Detroit have great amounts of civic pride among the locals. There are also a lot of Philadelphia braggarts around.

I remember driving thru Missouri and everyone seemed to be wearing a shirt that had a Cardinal or Tiger emblazoned on it showing pride in their teams. Whole entire families dressed that way. I guess that could be a form of civic pride. Hilarious.

I think Boston wins on civic pride. They absolutely die hard for their city, their food, their accents, their sports teams. If it says "BOSTON" or "NEW ENGLAND" they will support it.

As for the least, probably a tourist dominated area like Las Vegas.

Albuquerque has tons of city pride. New Mexico also has a ton of state pride. Both Albuquerque and New Mexico have a strong sense of place, rich culture and deep roots with traditions and history going back hundreds of years.

You'll see New Mexico flags and Zia sun symbols everywhere in New Mexico. Burque and 505 are also everywhere you look.

The latest way to express your pride in being from New Mexico and Albuquerque is in your face mask.

People from Miami, NYC, LA, SF, Chicago, Austin, and Boston have tons of civic pride and will defend their cities to the death. Philly is strange. They’ll make fun of their city, but don’t you dare chime in if you’re not from there or they’ll literally rip you a new one. It’s one of those “we can make fun of ourselves but you can’t.”

I think us Northeasterners are like that generally in my experience
