Just curious if anyone actually uses this site or other sites or data to actually make decisions about where to live based on any statistics given on this site. I mean, there's a wealth of info on this site and it would be a shame if it was never used. If so, what info or stats do you care about or use?
Population density is a major factor in my moving decision-making. I like LOW population density (less traffic), more sprawl. City Data provides that info without me having to do the math -- population/square miles.
Not in the slightest. This board is 98% human emotion, city braging, and trash talking and 2% factual data.
If the thread title was, "Do you actually use City-Data forums to make decisions?", then I could agree with you 100%.
But for the site itself? The site is damn good.

Reason: I didn't see the post that came right before me... but I'm letting these thoughts stand, and emphasis added.
I've used the statistics for research for marketing projects or to prove a point, but not really to move somewhere. I can tell if I want to move somewhere by visiting there--no amount of stats can quantify that.
On the other hand I have used the CityData boards to get restaurant/travel recomendations from the local boards--and usually I've had good luck with that. The great folks on the Boston board were especially helpful before I travelled out there.
Their data is dated and not a source I would ever consider valid.
I agree. I prefer to use the Census Bureau's website, actually, because it's more accurate and up to date.
