Old city is one of the most coolest urban areas in this country. I really think people are crabby to you because it is obvious of your attitude. If you were standing next to me bashing my state like you do here, I also would be crabby to you back. It has nothing to do with where you live.
I think if you read the first page I kind of got into where I've been. You see,I look at things in a big picture and I'm also somewhat of an idealist and if I can't be where I want then I tend to get a little testy;
I've been around this forum and others and have also found people of like minds, people who are kind of stuck where they are right now and it's not pleasant. Most people have not been in that situation so they can't relate.
As for the PA thing,I have lived and been around to enough areas in PA to be able to tell, and I am not saying that PA is bad altogether.
I just hate when people tell me how 'beautiful' Philly is when they haven't even visited here much less lived in it. Of course everything is beautiful when that's all you see. It's human nature to want to avoid the bad,but guess what,I happened to get stuck in it! I like to use the analogy have you ever made a wrong turn and ended up in a bad neighborhood and pretty much held your breath until you were able to scoot out of there? Well imagine that your car breaks down instead and you have to hang out there. Picture that spread out over years and years! I've seen what inner city living has done to people here and I'm fighting not to let it happen to me.
Is that a better explanation?

StuckPA, earlier in this thread when someone asked you why you don't move to a nicer neighborhood in Philly, you said "that's where the wife comes in." or something similar to that. Are you saying that your wife actually prefers to live in a ghetto 'hood? Really?

Favorites (In Order): California (Amazing state other than Central Valley), Oregon (My home state, and just beautiful), Vermont.

Least Favorite: Basically the entire Midwest, and Texas.

While I don't want this turning into a 'StuckPA therapy thread' I will say this, yes,in a way my wife is used to living in ghettoes and now I must try and cope the best I can for now. I did convince her to move to a slightly better neighborhood, but her job and family is here so I don't see us leaving anytime soon. So until then you're probably going to have to deal with 'vendetta speak' from ol' Stuck in PA

Nothing grows there...it's just miles of flat, boring country. As my father put it, "Hell on earth."
You need to try Oklahoma again. Try the Ouachita mountains in SE Oklahoma. Or you could do route 66 through the crosstimbers between Tulsa and OKC. Or maybe you could go to the Arbuckle Mountains or the Wichita Mountains if you want to do some hiking or rock climbing. Float the Illinois river at the bottom of the Ozark uplift on your way back home.

The funny part about your post is that Oklahoma is one of only 4 states that has over 10 ecozones. It and Texas are the only states that are natural habitat to both alligator and pronghorn antelope.

And who needs any other reason to love both states??

My favorites:
New York (it's gorges), California (also gorges), Maine, New Jersey (has gotten a lot of hate in this thread, but I love the place).

Least favorites:
Connecticut (pretty state, but I can't deal), North Carolina, Ohio

I reserve the right to add middle-America states to either column as I visit them.

-big cities (except for Utah), beautiful countryside, and real mountains (except for New York)
Least Favorites: North/South Carolina
-nothing against the area, just lived there too long and did everything there was to do in the seven years I was there; first area I lived in where my family encountered vocal bigots
