Least expensive real estate among THESE states (motel, home)

Buying a little 2nd home for the retired hubby and me. Our criteria is irrelevant, since we just would like to know which of these states offer the least expensive real estate. Thanks in advance to everyone!!

I'd say that Upstate NY north of the Hudson Valley, PA outside of the Philadelphia area, Western MA and parts of the Northern New England states.

PA has BY FAR the cheapest Real Estate out of these states.

Definitely Pennsylvania on the whole, although some areas of the other states are comparable: much of central and western Upstate New York, northern Maine, and far northern New Hampshire.

How cheap is it? What makes PA so cheap right now? Was there for a family reunion last Fall and really enjoyed it. Very charming and quaint about an hour and a half outside of Pittsburg. Kept expecting some 1940's movie stars to come around the corner of the cozy motel in plaid jackets with leather patches on the elbows looking so country chic...LOL. Gable, Bogart, Russell, McCall, I can still picture it!

But, do take into account taxes--that's an every year thing. And, other expenses particular to a region that you choose.

Interestingly, many of the affordable areas mentioned are on par with many Southern areas in terms of overall COL.

If you're considering PA I think you really ought to consider neighboring Ohio. There are some great bargains to be had particularly in the east/northeast areas of the state.

Or even WV around Morgantown and the Eastern Panhandle.
