If you've moved your home from U.S. one state to another, how much did your move cost? What states did you move from/to? What method of you moving did you choose? What parts went smoothly, what parts would you do differently?
A few years ago, I moved from Missouri to Michigan (700 miles). I had enough stuff to fill a van that was too good to throw away, so I bought a used Ford Econoline that leaked oil for $1,000, moved my stuff in it, and then sold it in Michigan for $700, after getting about six months use out of it as a second car.
I moved from Eastern Nebraska to Western South Dakota. I rented a Uhaul trailer. I can't remember how much that cost, but I'd say with gas and food, the whole move was between $500-$1000, and probably on the low end of that.
The move itself went so smoothly, I still can't believe it. My boyfriend at the time (now my husband) drove a truck down and pulled the Uhaul back with us. We basically had one day for me to finish packing and get the trailer loaded, my apartment cleaned and keys turned in, and saying goodbye to family. I figured we'd probably have some tense moments but we didn't. We worked great as a team.
I was also nervous about moving in the middle of February. On the day that we drove to SD, it was 70 degrees...in February. I also had two dogs with me, and I was actually worried about stopping and it getting to hot in the car for them. LOL
The only thing I might have done differently is buy a plane ticket for my boyfriend and rented an actual Uhaul truck, which he could drive. Overall, though, it went remarkably well.
I moved from California to New York. I sent some personal stuff in boxes via UPS to a friend and the rest of my personal stuff I packed into 2 suitcases that flew with me. (At the time I didn't own any furniture or big items.)

If you plan to ship your belongings, and you have a lot of books, videos, documents etc. you can ship all of those very cheaply by the Post Office Library Rate. I think less than half the normal parcel post rate.
