Oh, man, I hate those people. The very worst are the pinch-faced, pious, self-appointed guardians of the traffic laws who feel they are personally there to make sure everybody drives not one millimeter over the speed limit.

Just for people like that, I want to have a cow catcher on the front of my car so I can scoop them up and toss them into the median. Serves them right.

I just got back from driving from Chicago to St. Louis and back along I-55 and I've developed a theory that explains left lane hogs and slow drivers generally....it's the police. The state police, namely.

I got a ticket on the way to St. Louis on a rural part of I-55 in Central Illinois for going 80 in a 65. It's the first time I've ever gotten a speeding ticket and I usually drive around 15 or so over the limit on highways. Then I realized it's because cops in the Northeast, where I'm from, and Chicago, where I live, don't give tickets for that. On the way home, I only went around 5 or 10 over and was still driving faster than most.

I think people in rural areas actually drive the speed limit because they will get a ticket if they do not. In big cities, the police have better things to do and speed limits tend to be loosely enforced. Where I come from the only people who drive the speed limit are old ladies, new drivers and ultraneurotic soccer moms. On highways, it's pretty much expected that you'll go at least 10 over. Driving the speed limit seems downright strange to me, but in rural areas it is actually expected.

Anywhere in the rural south. This is most evident after returning from a trip up north. You begin to realize how many people "take their time" in the passing lanes, or any road for that matter.

The law is such a horrible thing to obey. Why should law-abiding American citizens have to follow something as silly as the law? It makes no sense!

Ohio! I've lived in several regions in the country and never did I notice this as bad as when I lived in the metro-Cleveland area!

Based on my highly scientific data analysis, I would say that it is Ohio.

This comes from my perspective of frequent travel up and down the interstates of SC, NC, VA, and GA.

But, somehow, there must be some mass-exodus of 60+ folks out of Ohio, clogging our nation's byways.
