DMV= DC,DC's Maryland and Virginia suburbs. Baltimore is not part of the DMV; Technically, Annapolis isn't either because it's part of the Baltimore's Metro. Richmond and Hampton Road are not included as the DMV.

I've lived in northern Virginia my entire life and never heard the term DMV until a year ago. It just a term that a blogger made up. Nobody in real life actually refers to the Washington area as DMV.

Now that I got that out of the way, I'm sure someone using that term would be referring to the District of Colombia, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax County, Prince William, and Loudoun in Virginia. And in Maryland, Prince Georges and Montgomery, and Charles counties.

None of the cities you mentioned are part of the Washington metro area. Baltimore is over an hour away. Richmond 90 minutes, and Norfolk 3 hours away.

I'm aware what the D.C. metro area is and it suburbs, but i hear alot of people mainly in the hip hop community refer to ares that are not in the D.C. MSA as the DMV thats where my question mainly comes from.

From my experiences, the hiphop community is the last group to associate themselves with another city. DMV is never used here in Baltimore. As far as media is concerned, they rarely use hardly ever combine the areas as one. I never knew that people did until I joined City Data.

You never heard of hip hop community to associate themselves with this?? There is an award show dedicated to this called the DMV awards that covers almost all parts of Va, Md, and DC. Not to mention people like Wale and alot of other artists associate themselves with many cities throughout both states.

I've heard about the DMV awards, but that's only on the DC radio stations. I've never heard wale mention Baltimore. There's a hip-hop forum the I go to, where someone asked the same question. Both cities said that the DMV is strictly the DC area.
