FIFTH 1ST IN $HOPS
AVE. HAS HIGHEST RENT
By MARK JOYELLA
October 5, 2007 -- Rodeo Drive? Puh-leeze!
The country's far-and-away leader in elite retail remains Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, by a $7 million mile.
Real-estate firm Colliers International ranked the most expensive shopping streets in the United States by price paid per square foot, and Fifth Avenue took top honors, with an average rent of $1,350.
Rent is determined by market forces. So yes NYC will be more expensive than Chicago. But I think that 5th ave has the most expensive stores. Especially for me when my wife goes into those stores.
I've shopped on Michigan Avenue more times than I can count (thankfully my income is comfortable enough to the point where I can do that) And then when I get back home, it's like everything just feels so...cheap.
