I am in a quest of finding my calling and truth is I am introvert and deeply desire to have a relaxed life with the least stress possible. It would be long and hard to explain but after studing and working in civil engineering for a long time I have come to think that the career, and many others with a similar approach or style, demands arrogance as part of the requirements to be successful. Some call it confidence, but truth is that I have seen things that my morals don't adopt as right yet it is almost unanimous in every "professional" career, and the danger to lose the job at anytime without previous advice is always there. I need to find my calling and find what fits me and the professional, competitive business in which it is a hell difficult-to-impossible to get a job while it is hell easy to lose it, does not fit me. I would like to find a place where I could just have a relaxed life, I have no ambition to be "better" than others nor I want to be superior to anyone, I just want a simple, happy and relaxed (most of the time) life.
So what would be the best place here in the US to achieve that? I love Tampa but as a city it seems here it is not for me, as it is not any other metro area in the US and the world.
To me the mountain lifestyle is a good example of what you're seeking. The Boone/Blowing Rock/Banner Elk area in Western NC has many residents like yourself who have walked away from "professional life" and are now enjoying a more simple existence, yet still taking advantage of more modern everyday conveniences.
