Anyone ever look at the statistics of the United States for demographics?

13.1% black out of 311,591,917. Equals out to slightly over 40 million African Americans.

In the south these demographics are a lot higher. Especially in the deep south:

1. Mississippi 37% black
2. Louisiana 32% black
3. Georgia 31% black
4. South Carolina 28% black.

Now compare this to the midwest

1. Indiana 9% black
2. Ohio 12% black
3. Illinois 15% black
4. Michigan 14% black

Or even compare it to New England, total opposite.

1. Maine 1% black
2. Massachusetts 8% black
3. Vermont 1% black
4. New Hampshire 1% black

Major southern cities

1. Atlanta 38% black
2. Birmingham 73% black
3. Jackson 79% black
4. New Orleans 60% black
5. Memphis 63% black

Major Midwestern cities

1. Indianapolis 25% black
2. Columbus 28% black
3. Louisville 23% black
4. Des Moines 10% black
5. Madison 7% black
6. Minneapolis 18% black

It seems African Americans have a much higher presence in the south and especially the southern cities. Can someone shed some light on this disparity of racial location to me?

Think way back in history. Slaves from Africa were brought to the south to work on plantations. After they were freed, they stayed in the south for the most part. Perhaps it was too difficult or expensive to leave. There was quite a bit of migration to the industrial north to work in the factories, but most people stayed down south. Now, some of the best places for African-Americans to live are cities like Atlanta. Many northern cities have reputations, whether deserved or not, of being too segregated and racist.

Well i can offer some insight on racial tensions of Indianapolis.
Indy was the ONLY major US city in the country that did not riot in 1968 after Martin Luther King Jr's death. Many credit this to Robert F Kennedy's Speach in Indy on the night of the assassination.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_...uther_King,_Jr.

The spot where he gave the speech has this memorial on it today: Landmark for Peace Memorial - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Indy is the least segregated city in the Northern United States.
Indianapolis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
here is what it says:
A University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee study recently concluded that Indianapolis is the least segregated city in the northern United States, with 25% of the population living on a city block with both white and black residents.

Indy is like the Black Mecca of the north. Blacks have historically been able to achieve more and live in peace in Indianapolis compared to other northern cities like Detroit and Chicago.
In a way it could be called the Atlanta of the North.
Madam J Walker the first African American self-made Millionaire Entrepenuer started her career and business in Indianapolis and grew it from there.

One thing to point out about Indiana is the urban areas contain the most population however blacks didnt start arriving to these urban areas until the 20s and Indiana didnt have the buzz like Detroit and Chicago did. However today that has flipped. Detroit and Chicago and known for their crime and riots well Indy/Columbus/Kansas city are known for their rapid successful growth and being the shining stars of the midwest.

If you think it's so simple, answer it, because there are still several exceptions to this. Tennessee, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Virginia all have much smaller black populations than the deep south states.

Is this a serious question? Seems more like it might be a semi-bigoted joke. How old is this OP or are they from another country?

Right...because the deep south had much more in the way of large plantations than the upper south... which tended to have smaller farms and focus a little more in light industry (such as textiles).

Because the Deep South states were more agrarian in nature.

This should answer it for you.
