Philadelphia's flagship park is probably the main part of Fairmount Park near Center City and West/North Philly with all the Museums, Boathouse Row/Kelly and MLK Drive, The Zoo, Horse stables, Mann Music Center, Japanese Tea Garden, Memorial Hall, Bartram Gardens.
But my favorite park in Philadelphia is The serene Wissahickon Park/Gorge in Northwest Philly. Most visitors probably don't get up this way, but it is most definitely worth a visit. Over 50 Miles of trails and 1800 Acres. Pics are mine from a recent dog walk.
Washington, DC is a tricky one. For one, the National Mall is laid out similar to a park in many respects and contains most of the city's main landmarks, and is continguous with The Ellipse and West & East Potomac Parks, which contain the Tidal Basin, a golf course, a tennis center, and of course the Jefferson Memorial. Since many traditional city parks contain a garden of some sort, the US Botanical Garden near the Capitol also can qualify. Similar to NYC's Central Park, there are a bunch of museums on the edge of the greenspace. There is also a carousel and the Sylvan Theater stage that provide it a lively feel. There is also a ribbon of parkland between the Senate side of the Capitol that connects up to Union Station that connects with the main Mall without any urban buildings.
On the other hand, there is the larger Rock Creek Park, which contains the National Zoo. However, outside of the zoo, the rest of the park is mostly composed of locals and lots of the park is just wilderness, though there is a golf course and some typical park facilities.
I know this is probably intended to be about North American cities, but I'm not sure there's a more stunning urban park anywhere in the world (it's actually botanical gardens, so not quite the same thing) than Kirstenbosch in Cape Town. These are all my pictures.
Omaha's would be Gene Leahy Mall, granted its not too big of a park, but it is beautiful because it has a great view of the skyline. Lincoln NE's is Pioneers Park. It's on the edge of town, but it's large and has a nature center and the Pinewood Bowl has really awesome concerts there, including Mumford and Sons back in 2011
