I've lived in all time zones, and I like central the best. I like having shows on earlier, and live events give me just enough time for sleep. The letdown for Central (and Mountain, Pacific) is New Years. Once i see the ball drop its over.
I have to agree and echo the other posters who liked the earlier broadcast. I have lived in the Eastern and Mountain time zones. I really enjoy the earlier start of prime time. It allows you to enjoy shows without having to stay up so late. Eastern and Pacific Time zones would be too late for me to enjoy shows like SNL and the late night talk shows.
The US revolves around the Eastern Time Zone. It's where the greatest number of US residents live and it's even the prime time slot for the Super Bowl, Academy Awards and all the live broadcasts that matter to the entire country. It's also home to 7 of the top ten most populated states save a few counties in western Michigan and Florida and ten of the 14 most populated states. Central time people might disagree with me because these things are agreeable to them as well but it's only because they go to bed earlier to wake up and milk the cows....wink, wink....
Also with the east coast there's also more crowding, crime, and pollution...and without the milking of those midwestern cows you wouldn't have alot of your food

It is pitch black dark at 7 am. I've heard the reasons for Indiana being in the eastern time zone had something to do with business conducted in New York. I'm voting for the central timezone.
It was, Michigan's reasoning as well, to be in the same time zone as New York City because of the financial markets, but you are right, it doesn't make sense. Ignoring state boundaries, the logical line between Eastern and Central should be 82.5° west longitude, this is east of the ENTIRE STATES of Michigan and Indiana, and goes through the middle of Ohio, about 20-30 miles east of Columbus
