I've seen several movies where men in a bar can pay a ladyto have a dance with them. I don´t mean a go-go, or a lap dance, or a strip-tease, they just went to the dance-floor and danced grabbing each other to a slow song, or ballad, it's a "clean thing", no sex involved, the whole thing looked very respectable. (but they were movies so I dont know how it works in real life)
I wonder how common is this in the USA? Every city has this type of bar? Is it only for middle aged guys, or does young people go?
Dime a Dance. Yes, it existed during the world wars. As far as I know, it isn't available anywhere any more.
Soldiers would be far from home and they could go into a dime a dance place and buy tickets to dance with the ladies and have someone to talk to for a few minutes. I knew someone who supported herself that way for awhile. It was completely non-sexual. Just something for lonely guys to have a moment of companionship.
Young men used to understand the concept of respect for a lady. I have my doubts that young men paying for a dance in this day and age would behave themselves and not think they had a right to grope, or worse.
I just thought to add something else. A dance ticket was a dime and all the man had to do was present the ticket and the dance was his. No risk of being turned down and feeling rejected. It was very safe for everyone involved. There were chaparones and bouncers to protect the ladies and the men could get their attention with no risk of ridicule or rejection.
Of course, the bar was making their big money on the drinks. The ladies got no salaries, just what they could earn from dancing.

Thanks for you answer. I actually saw it in Cold Case, and the action was around the 50s or 60s, and the second time was in a movie about Mexicans living in New York, but this time was supposed to be nowadays. In fact the guy whispered something to the girl and she slapped him , so he and his friends had to leave the bar.
I've seen it in OLD movies... and of course there's the old Ruth Etting song from the 1930s "10 Cents a Dance" but I've never seen it myself in 'modern day'.
