What national or regional companies had their starts in your city? Seattle has an impressive list:

1884 Rainier Brewery (Rainier Beer) (defunct)
1890 Bon Marche Department store chain (now Macy's)
1890 Frederick & Nelson Department store chain (defunct)
1899 Carnation
1901 Nordstrom
1905 PACCAR
1907 United Parcel Service (UPS)
1916 Boeing
1920 Eddie Bauer
1923 Safeco Insurance
1938 R.E.I.
1949 PEMCO Insurance
1971 Starbucks
1983 Costco
1992 Tully's
1994 Amazon

Microsoft, almost universally identified with the Seattle area, was not actually founded here but in Albuquerque.

And Amazon!

Where did the OP get that list from? I'd try to do it for Minneapolis but the list would be very long and the history makes it all the more difficult.

Here's a list of companies from the Twin Cities I put together. This isn't all of them but the ones I figure are more well known at a national level and still reside in the area.

1856 General Mills (Minneapolis)
1865 Hamm's Brewery - defunct (St. Paul)
1872 Pillsbury (Minneapolis)
1902 Daytons - Target (Minneapolis)
1903 Andersen Windows (Hudson, WI/Bayport, MN)
1914 Toro (Minneapolis)
1916 NSP - Xcel Energy (St. Paul)
1921 Land-o-Lakes (St. Paul)
1923 Ecolab (St. Paul)
1949 Medtronic (Minneapolis)
1966 Music-go-round - Best Buy (West St. Paul/Roseville)

Where should I start? I don't like how they are undercutting "bricks and mortar" business by using them as showrooms and then having people buy stuff through them. I also don't like how they invite "Ma and Pa" businesses to advertise on their space and then undercut them by recreating the very same product at a lower price (per the Wall Street Journal article back in October).
