Our country has seen numerous migration trends all within the last 200 years. First, it was the gold rush. Then it was the Great Migration, which comprised of African Americans seeking refuge in the north for better opportunities . In the mid to late 20th century, whites fled urban centers to the outer suburbs. From the late 80s up until now, there has been a large exodus of northerners moving into the Sunbelt for cheap housing and land. Do you think there will be another one in the future?

Well, whites are once again filling the urban centers that they once abandoned. Maybe this is that movement.

When I read your post, this article immediately came to mind:

Where You'll Want to Live in 2032

It predicts the west north central states (or western Midwest area - MN, Dakotas, MO, IA) as the highest ranked for livability in 2032 based on a number of factors. But, just because a place is livable doesn't necessarily mean people will flood the gates...and I really can't imagine people flocking to North Dakota, for example.

These things are so hard to predict. I think that at least by 2050 the center of population will start to slowly shift east after having moved west in every single census. For two reasons; one, the simple fact that it cannot move west forever; and more importantly there simply isn't enough water/natural resources/habitable land out west for it to ever reach the density of the eastern half of the country. I think the next big "escape from x state" will be Florida, which has really already started. After so many decades of being first the go-to place for retirees and then other age groups from the northeast and midwest.....it has reached the tipping point and you are already seeing a large amount of people either returning to their home states of becoming "halfbackers" who move to NC/TV/VA/N. GA. I think the "halfbackers" will creep their way north into MD and PA as well especially as cities like Pittsburgh continue to become economic hotspots with high QOL.

We were visiting my inlaws who are snowbirds in Palm Beach County FL over thanksgiving and the way things have changed there over the past 5 years is pretty dramatic. A lot more run-down looking areas, much higher crime, skyrocketing COL and though we don't know anybody with kids down there apparently the schools are pretty terrible.

I think that Ohio will continue to see a large immigration of Arabs who by then will have created at least 10 Fortune 500 companies, and the rest of the country will continue to pretend that they don't exist.
