Traffic bad on the 405 today? don't forget you have an appointment with the plastic surgeon tomorrow, and don't worry, they have a place to plug in your prius at the office.

it is ignorance like this that makes you sound "non-cosmopolitan." do you ever travel outside of your bubble? seriously, your comment is just embarrassing.

Tell me if Kansas, Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois(south of Chicago), Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio are cosmopolitan states. I've been to the midwest, and it's the most boring part of the country. Even rural areas of the South has its own charm about them. Most of the Midwest is plain old White Bread for a lack of a better word.

Not good: Rust, dying small towns, no mountains or oceans, weather-weary structures, segregated cities

Good: Thunderstorms, urban renewal, down-to-earth friendliness, prairies, the Great Lakes

Im from the Northeast (NY), and ive gotten along most with Midwest people. Theyre down to earth, real and nice. Some of the smartest people ive ever met as well. Engineers, architects, dotcommers, etc.

Not at all the boring plain jane so many coastal elitists describe them to be.

Am I going against the grain here as an East Coaster?

Is Washington, Oregon and California outside of their large cities cosmopolitan?

Most states are the same generally outside of them. Your argument is more for cities vs. states.

Minneapolis and Chicago are two of the best cities in the country IMO.

Whats funny to me is that Chicago is deemed to be in flyover country yet has O'Hare.

A place with the top 3 busiest airport in the world for movement and passengers doesnt seem like flyover to me.

For the rest of the Midwest? Sure, but not Chicago.
