Also, I-65 passes thorugh Birmingham close to the mile range mentioned, but I still would question if Birmingham is a major metro area. Gary, IN is part of the Chicago Metro Area but as you said there is Tennessee and Kentucky dividing the states. Tampa and Atlanta are known major metro areas (4 million and 6 million people in each metro area). I-95 in Maine has around 350 miles but there are no major metro areas in the state and Daytona Beach in FL is not a major metropolitan area. Unless you want to consider it part of Orlando.
