The folks at California Rail Map are making a complete map of the North East rail system, inclusive of all passenger services. That's light rail, heavy rail, commuter/regional rail, and inter-city rail. The map they made of California is awesome, and I'm sure the North East Rail Map will likewise be awesome.

I think DC is the best answer. DC would be second after NYC.
