Saint Louis, Kansas City, Memphis, or Jefferson City.

Or...build a new, planned capital at or near the location of Cairo, IL.

Kansas City works if it would be allowed to be independent of Kansas and Missouri.
I would also totally be for starting a brand new city from scratch.

From the list above, Chicago.

Otherwise, New York City.

The poll missed the mark with Denver. Colorado Springs is where NORAD is, and I would choose that, over Denver. Omaha, though, was the city with SAC.

I always thought the Capial city of the United States should be as close to the center of the Lower 48 States as possible, so that means Kansas City, St Joe, Missouri, or Omaha would be the obvious choices.

This is sort of an odd poll..

But I would say combined Chicago is the largest, most significant and geographically central city in the USA.

So if we are going by those metrics it would be Chicago for sure.

My vote would have gone to Omaha, since it is located well inland and has the Headquarters of the Strategic Air Command; also seems to have a strong work ethic and sense of patriotism. I much enjoyed the year I spent there.

Columbus, OH and Indianapolis are also cities I would like to have seen listed among the choices.

I would say St. Louis. East/West Gateway, could use a massive influx of investment, lots of brownfield redevelopment sites while still have some modicum of existing institutions and infrastructure, and pretty centrally located population-wise.
