And while I have to say that H.I. always made me a bit uncomfortable to listen to or look at, truth be told, most people here in Minnesota are more like Jerry Lundegaard than Marge Gunderson. Not so much because they're stupid but because they'd just as soon give you up to psychotic killers than have to ask your relatives for a favor.
Man, what a question. I've spent time in MN and have lived in AZ for 13 years. MN is a cool state but comparing it to AZ is nonsense. My brother in law, who grew up in MN said it best when asked why he left it for MI "got tired of those six week summers." That about says it all.
Az weather is wonderful. We live in Payson, 'bout 5000 feet in the mountains. The sun shines at least 9 days out of ten. Our weather is mild year around. Low humidity. When you get up and the sun isn't shining you are surprised.
And, who ever heard of folks going to MN for the winter??
Interesting thread in a bizarre sort of way. I think as far as the big cities go, I have to go with MN. IMO Minneapolis > Phoenix. Weather... that's tough. In either state I think you're going to be spending a lot of time indoors. MN gets pretty damn cold, but I suppose I'd rather deal with that than the triple degree heat of most of AZ in the summer so overall I'd have to go with MN. Natural beauty... hmmm well I think they're both beautiful. And although I do like the green of MN over the brown of AZ, I do prefer mountains, and places like Sedona are just so stunningly beautiful that I would say AZ wins in that category. Most of AZ is close to a lot more than MN. California, Vegas, Santa Fe, Denver are all relatively close depending where you are. MN seems so much more isolated. There's Chicago but that's like what, 8 hours from Minneapolis? I suppose we mustn't forget Des Moines as well Still, I think overall MN would be my preference.
Which state has more going for it?? Well at first blush I'd say AZ just because it's pretty much exploded in growth during the past couple decades. MN has grown as well albeit at a more modest pace. But that may be better in the long run because explosive growth can be oft a double-edged sword, causing problems of its own.
I’ve lived in the in the north with winters like Minn, and I now in AZ with summer weather. That’s the only difference are the seasons. I got tired of shoveling the cold snow; I’ve never had to shovel warm sunshine yet. lol I simply find it easier to get cool in AZ but can’t get warm in the cold north.
I've been to both states. Both are gorgeous in terms of natural beauty. I'm partial to Arizona, but Minnesota is a very gorgeous state. However, make sure you can tolerate the heat in southern Arizona. Summers in Phoenix are like being dropped off into hell. Every other time of the year the temperature is great. Minnesota is generally a bit chilly but a great place full of nice people. Also being a hockey fan, Minnesota was a fun place to visit. I went to a Wild/Penguins game it was an absolute blast.
