Old School. You can always go to the suburbs to get that Sun Belt type feel.

I'd rather live in a sunbelt type. I'd take nice and modern over "charm" any day. I usually hate the weather in the sunbelt cities though.

San Antonio is a sunbelt city and is ancient on American standards...named San Antonio in 1691.

I'd live in Sunbelt cities, and prefer to visit old school cities.

Old school cities, easily.

I can visit Miami or Las Vegas on vacation. The rest of the sunbelt doesn't interest me at all.

I prefer the east coast cities (New York City, Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia), Chicago and San Francisco.

I like something in between. Denver, Portland, or Seattle nice density at the core with a layer of old school neighborhoods surrounding the core, and plenty of elbow room surrounding that. I think Seattle strikes a perfect balance of urban/suburban, old school and modern.

I like houses that aren't pseudo-apartments attached to one another, having a front and back yard, and using a car to get around instead of public transportation. I like being able to see the horizon, mountains, the sunset, instead of ugly manmade buildings, skylines, etc.

where do cities like Oakland, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis and Denver (and New Orleans) fit in?

I do like aspects of sunbelt cities but in my core I favor the hustle-bustle, slight grit and congestion of more dense cities
