^^^ Charlotte is not 3x the population of Raleigh on the city level and the two are nearly equal on the metro level.
since when is 1.2million people in the Raleigh metro and 2.4million in the charlotte metro nearly the same and charlotte has nearly 800,000 people while Raleigh almost 500,000 that's a big difference
Colorado: Yes, Denver will most likely always be the largest metro in the state. However, El Paso County (Colorado Springs) passed Denver City and County in population in 2010 (622,623 vs 600,158). Denver is landlocked due to the Poundstone Amendment which prohibits annexation beyond its current county lines without the approval of the county being annexed. This was in effect when DIA was built and Adams County allowed annexation. That's the last time it happened. Bottom line is Denver is locked at 153 square miles and has a city/county population of 600,158. Colorado Springs is currently 194.7 square miles with a population of 416,427, and plenty of room to grow and expand (2,126 square miles in the county alone). It may take another 20-30 years and a stronger economy, but the Springs is a candidate to become the largest city in the state.
