In terms of a college town, perhaps look into Norman OK or Fayetteville AR.
Those are both rather generic college towns that don't offer anything special to entice people to move there who aren't attending the school. Many University of Oklahoma and University of Arkansas grads end up moving to Austin or DFW.

In that case, maybe Athens GA, Las Cruces NM or Tucson AZ would be better choices.
Carfree in Denver, Minneapolis, or Milwaukee is easier than Atlanta? I don't know about that...
I thought the same thing. Very few people could easily go car-free in Denver.
I think that a lot of the young people in the Denver area are actually young families. I suspect that is also true of Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, etc., but I may be wrong
Yes, I do cook...quite a bit. I guess if depends upon one's lifestyle and what they like to eat. Some people eat to fulfill a need and others cook because they like food and some within that group are conscious of quality and where it comes from. In addition not mentioned in the $75 a week grocery budget that it should include non-food items such as personal care items, laundry/cleaning products and other miscellaneous items. PB&J, Tuna Fish, Spaghetti and Hamburgers would get old as $9-$10 a day includes all three meals assuming one can afford to eat three. No wonder so many in this country are in fiscal dire straits with thinking numbers like these are sufficient enough to sustain themselves....
